Empowering Mass Adoption by Censorship Resistance and Anonymity.

Why Tonic?

The emergence of blockchain technology has revolutionized the way we interact with digital assets. Decentralized cryptocurrencies, or crypto for short, have created a decentralized ecosystem where all nodes in the network have an equal say, unlike centralized systems where certain entities have control over everything. This creates a censorship-resistant and anonymous environment where individuals and organizations cannot block or manipulate transactions.

At Tonic, we believe that censorship resistance and anonymity are the two most important characteristics of crypto that can lead to true mass adoption. When people can trade freely and deploy new applications (DApps) beyond the barriers of nations, the true value of crypto is realized. Just like the internet has reduced the information gap, crypto has the potential to reduce financial disparities and increase accessibility. Finance is an essential element and right for everyone, and DeFi (Decentralized Finance) will help to level the playing field.

However, the decentralized nature of blockchain technology also means that transaction histories are publicly available to anyone on the network, which may be a disadvantage for users who want to keep their transactions private. To solve this problem, users of cryptocurrencies often use protocols to anonymize their transactions on the blockchain. One of the most popular protocols that use zk-SNARK technology for this purpose is Tornado Cash.

Tonic is a fork of Tornado Cash, created to make anonymous technology accessible to all users, not just a select few institutions. We believe that privacy is a fundamental human right and that individuals should have control over their own data. By offering an easy-to-use privacy protocol, we aim to make the crypto ecosystem more inclusive and empower individuals to have more control over their own financial privacy.

Our motivation for building Tonic is to create a more equitable and accessible crypto ecosystem. We want to enable individuals to use crypto without worrying about being tracked, monitored, or censored. With Tonic, we hope to create a more open and democratic financial system that gives individuals greater financial freedom and privacy.

토닉을 만들게 된 이유

토닉은 크립토 매스 어답션을 위한 초석이 프라이버시라고 믿습니다. 기존까지는 소수의 사람들만 사용해 왔던 프라이버시 기술들을, 모두가 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 만들고자 합니다.

블록체인을 통해 구현되는 탈중앙화된 암호화폐 생태계(crypto, 이하 크립토)는, 특정 주체가 모든 것을 제어하는 중앙화된 시스템과는 달리 네트워크에 참여하는 모든 노드에게 그 처리가 분산되어 있습니다. 이는 어떤 개인이나 기관도 블록체인 상에서 특정 거래를 차단하거나 조작할 수 없다는 데 의의가 있습니다.

이는 즉, 네트워크의 노드 몇 개가 특정 지갑의 송금이나 앱의 실행을 막는 등의 검열을 행하더라도, 정상적인 다른 노드들을 통해서 문제없이 서비스 이용이 가능하다는 것을 뜻합니다.

우리는 검열저항성과 익명성이 크립토의 진정한 대중화를 이끌어낼 수 있는 가장 중요한 특성이라고 생각합니다. 전 세계에서 국가의 장벽을 넘어서, 어디서나 자유롭게 거래를 하고 새로운 애플리케이션(DApp)을 배포할 수 있을 때에야 진정한 가치가 있는 것이라고 믿습니다. 인터넷이 처음 등장하고 나서 정보의 격차는 비약적으로 줄어들었습니다. 예전에는 소수의 권력자들이 정보를 모두 독점하고 통제했다면, 이제는 누구나 마음만 먹으면, 그리고 인터넷에 접속만 할 수 있다면 인류가 아직까지 축적해 온 방대한 데이터베이스에 너무나 쉽게 접근하고 또 전 세계에 새로운 정보를 퍼뜨릴 수 있습니다. 디파이(DeFi) 역시 금융의 격차를 줄이고, 접근성을 높이게 될 것입니다. 돈을 중심으로 인간 사회가 움직이는 만큼, 금융은 모든 사람의 삶에 필수적인 요소이며 권리가 되었습니다. 차별과 편견으로 인해 같은 대우를 받지 못하거나, 당연히 누려야 할 자유를 정치적 압력, 부족한 인프라와 치안 등으로 인해 통제당하고 있는 수많은 사람들, 기존의 시스템에서 소외당할 수밖에 없었던 사람들이 디파이로 인해 쉽게 금융을 접하고, 마땅히 누려야 할 서비스를 누릴 수 있었습니다. 기술 앞에 모두가 평등합니다.

그러나 이러한 탈중앙화된 특성은 또한, 블록체인 상에서의 거래가 누구에게나 공개되어 있기 때문에, 거래 내역이 노출되는 것을 우려하는 사용자들에게는 단점이 될 수 있습니다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해, 암호화폐를 사용하는 사용자들은 블록체인 상에서의 거래를 익명화하는 방법을 사용합니다. 이를 위해, 블록체인 상에서의 거래를 익명화하기 위한 프로토콜이 개발되었으며, 그 중에서도 가장 유명한 프로토콜이 바로 zk-SNARK 기술을 사용하는 토네이도 캐시(Tornado Cash)입니다.

토닉은 토네이도 캐시를 기반으로 만들어진 프로젝트입니다. 토닉은 기존까지 몇몇 기관들만 사용할 수 있었던 익명화 기술을, 모든 사용자들이 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 만들고자 합니다.
